Aubrey Sydney Alderson
Aircraftman 1st Class, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, S/N 1693774
Died 07.11.1944, on board a Royal Navy Tank Landing Ship which was mined and sunk in the English Channel.
Aged 40
Commemorated at The Air Forces WWII Memorial, Runnymede, Surrey.
Born 25.10.1904 in Sedgefield.
Son of Edith (Nelson) Alderson, 9 Avenue Street, Shincliffe.
(In 1911 address given as Shincliffe Station. Father, Tom Alderson died in 1933).
Previous occupation: Grocery Salesman.

Alexander James Lowery
Aircraftman 1st Class, R.A.F. Wireless Operator, Squadron 148.
Died 21.07.1939. On a training exercise over Somerset, his plane crashed killing all three on board.

Buried at Redhills R.C. Cemetery (formerly known as St Bede's Cemetery), Durham.

Commemorated on a plaque at St Cuthbert's Roman Catholic Church, Old Elvet, Durham.

Son of Alexander and Ethel (Broughton) Lowery. (In 1939 his parents and siblings were living at Whinny Hill, Durham.)
Nephew of Michael Lowery and James McKeown of Bowburn, who were killed in action 01-07-1916.

Leading Supply Assistant, H.M.S. Royal Oak,
Royal Navy, S/N 55400.
Died 14/10/1939, when H.M.S. Royal Oak was torpedoed by a submarine while anchored at Scapa Flow, Orkney, Scotland.
Aged 20.
Commemorated at the Naval Memorial, Portsmouth.
