Aubrey Sydney Alderson
Aircraftman 1st Class, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, S/N 1693774
Died 07.11.1944, aged 40, on board a Royal Navy Tank Landing Ship which was mined and sunk in the English Channel.
Commemorated at The Air Forces WWII Memorial, Runnymede, Surrey.
Born 25.10.1904 in Sedgefield.
Son of Edith (Nelson) Alderson, 9 Avenue Street, Shincliffe.
(In 1911 address given as Shincliffe Station. Father, Tom Alderson died in 1933).
Previous occupation: Grocery Salesman.

James Alexander Lowery
Aircraftman 1st Class, Royal Air Force, S/N 543526
Wireless Operator, Squadron 148, Bomber Command.
Died 21.07.1939, aged 19, on a training exercise over Somerset, his plane crashed killing all three on board.
Buried at Redhills R.C. Cemetery (formerly known as St Bede's Cemetery), Durham. (Burial Plot number Section N, Row 4, No 1.)
Commemorated on a plaque at St Cuthbert's Roman Catholic Church, Old Elvet, Durham.
Born 01.08.1919, Shincliffe Colliery. (In 1921, address 12, Pond St, Shincliffe Colliery.)
Son of Alexander and Ethel (Broughton) Lowery. (In 1939 his parents and siblings were living at Glendalough, Whinney Hill, Durham.)
Nephew of Michael Lowery and James McKeown of Bowburn, who were killed in action 01-07-1916.

Leading Supply Assistant, H.M.S. Royal Oak,
Royal Navy, S/N 55400.
Died 14/10/1939, aged 20, when H.M.S. Royal Oak was torpedoed by a submarine while anchored at Scapa Flow, Orkney, Scotland.
Commemorated at the Naval Memorial, Portsmouth.
